Normally, I sling a lot of criticism in the direction of Nintendo of America, and with good reason—their love for either being ridiculously late in releasing a game in the US, or not releasing the game at all, is legendary.
This time, however, they’ve made good—they’re bringing Style Savvy Trendsetters to us English-speaking peons! Trendsetters is, of course, the Enlish name for Wagamama Fashion Girl’s Mode: Yokubari Sengen, the 3DS follow-up to Nintendo’s fashion-focused DS game.
The previous DS game was one of the only times I’ve ever found myself wishing that I worked retail. It’s just so much fun trying your best to come up with a good outfit for a customer, and then see the excitement beaming from that customer when they love what you’ve suggested for them!
I’ve included both the Japanese and American trailers below, as each shows off a few different elements. And maybe my memory is totally shot, but could you work with guy’s fashion in the original game? I totally don’t remember that being an option.
You do have to wonder about that name, and what Nintendo is trying to say about girls and fashion. “Wagamama” translated to selfishness or self-indulgence, and “yokubari sengen” is “a declaration of greed”. Hmm.
I also can’t wish enough that the 3DS could graphically match the art style going on in these videos (especially the Japanese trailer). That style is just so cute!
Style Savvy Trendsetters will be hitting North America on October 22nd.

No, the original Style Savvy did not have men’s fashion. But just like you, I’m stoked about this release! You can pre-order it on Amazon.com now! I think they added it today!
