These American Miku Ads Are Really, Really Odd

Two new videos have hit from Toyoto, showing the totally sensical collaboration of Corolla + Hatsune Miku + bacon-wrapped hot dogs.

Wait, what?

I can’t even begin to understand what the point of these videos are. Well, okay, maybe I can: they want to make you think “what the f**k?!” and then go out to find an explanation for what it is that you just saw.

If Sankaku Complex is to be believed—which, really, is something that typically can go either way—the Miku fan community are freaking out over these videos. My take? Honestly, they make me laugh, in that Aqua Teen Hunger Force (the good era) kind of way. The whole thing is just so surreal and bizarre, with broken-robotic-English Miku getting overly excited about bacon-wrapped hot dogs.

Maybe that’s what America is to the virtual idol: goofy guys dressed up ridiculously peddling food that a normal human being shouldn’t want to eat. And yet, here she is, taken in and lured to that decadence she can’t have back in her home country.
